Monocrystalline PV Module Solar Panel
A solar cell panel, solar electric panel, photo-voltaic (PV) module or solar panel is an assembly of photovoltaic cells mounted in a framework for installation. Solar panels use sunlight as a source of energy to generate direct current electricity. A collection of PV modules is called a PV panel, and a system of PV panels is called an array.
There are 4 major types of solar panels available on the market so far: monocrystalline, polycrystalline, PERC, and thin-film panels.
The photoelectric conversion efficiency of monocrystalline silicon solar cells is around 15% to 24%, which is the highest among all kinds of solar cells at present. And due to monocrystalline silicon is generally packaged with tempered glass and waterproof resin, it is strong and durable, so the service life can generally reach to 25 years.
But there are still have two main disadvantages of solar energy, they are weather conditions and the inability to store electricity. Solar energy output depends mostly on direct sunlight. A cloudy day can reduce electricity generation by more than 80%.
So, whether solar panels can work at night? Answer is no. The reason is that Solar panels work because of a scientific principle called the photovoltaic effect, wherein solar cells are activated by sunlight, generating electrical current. So must need sunlight.
